Moulanā Maudùdī Approach to Reform syllabus and Educational System: An Analysis in the Context of Pakistan
Abstract
Moulānā Moudidi was a great Muslim reformer and thinker of the twentieth century. A significant role was played by him in the transformation of the Indian Subcontinent (India and Pakistan) Muslim’s society. Like many other Muslim thinkers, Syed Maudùdī was not satisfied with both the modern secular and traditionalist Islamic education systems. In his opinion, both systems have failed to comprehend and construct the Muslim society and state in all dimensions. The existing institutions and approaches were criticized by him at large and he wished and worked for the alternative education system to the Muslim society. He has been argued for a combined Islamic and modern approach to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Moreover, his views about the integration of secular and religious education systems are very innovative and could transform Muslim society on both local and global levels successfully. His educational approach is based on faith with modern requirements and techniques. The educational model given by Syed Moduli was very comprehensive and progressive and fulfil all needs of religion, science and morality and thus makes a harmonious blend of all the three in a holistic manner. In this context, this paper elaborates Moulānā Maudùdī’s approach towards the modern and traditional education system in an objective way from the Pakistani context. An alternative to the current education system is also presented by him. The analytical research methodology has been adopted in this study with a qualitative approach.
