Self-Purification in The Urdu Translations of Sultan Bahu’s Punjabi Poetry: A Research Study

Abstract

Sultan Bahu is a renowned mystic poet of Punjabi language. His poetry appeals to the inner soul and purifies the head and heart. His words come out of the soul and touches the soul directly. He conveyed the message of purification of soul and heart in his poetry. His mystic disposition, purified life style supports his ideas and puts a deep impact on the reader. His poetic mastery forwards the message in an effective way which influence the soul and spirit. Many poets and his followers have translated Sultan Bahu’s poetry in Urdu. The spirit of the original poetry has a deep impact in translations too, for it needs to dive deep into the spirit of the original creation. So, these translations of Sultan Bahu’s poetry have the same spirit and appeal. The article under study deals with the analysis of this aspect in the translations.
