Abstract

Islam is a universal religion. It is a source of guidance for the entire humanity. Its followers are present all over the world and are connected to the rope of “Millat”,  even when living in different geographical regions and countries. The Islamic concept of nationality and nation completely different from the western concept.  In Islam this concept is based on religion as opposed to geography, color, race, etc, the concept of nation is especially prominent in the poetry of Muslims. Along with Arabic, Persian and all regional languages, Urdu also has a rich tradition of national poetry. This article highlights the tradition of “Milli” poetry found in Urdu. Also the difference between “national poetry” and “Milli poetry” has been made clear.
